Harmonizing Hearts and Hits: Inside Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro’s Artistic and Romantic Journey
Rosalía’s music transcends borders, and her fans span the globe. "Anywhere her music is played, anywhere there’s a fan, is important to us," says Pilar Tobella
R osalía’s music transcends borders, and her fans span the globe. "Anywhere her music is played, anywhere there’s a fan, is important to us," says Pilar Tobella, Rosalía’s mother and a vital member of her management team. This global mindset reflects not just Rosalía’s artistic vision but also her personal and professional connection with reggaetón powerhouse Rauw Alejandro.
Rauw’s ambitious 80-plus-date arena tour, which began March 4 in Tampa, Florida, has already seen back-to-back sold-out shows in Miami. This follows his 100-show Vice Versa tour from 2021 to 2022, which grossed $24.5 million and sold over 327,000 tickets. Together, their artistic paths underscore the explosive global demand for Latin music.
But the duo’s recent collaboration, culminating in the release of RR, wasn’t a calculated move. It was a natural evolution born of personal and creative growth. "We wanted to solidify our relationship first," says Rosalía. "If music was meant to come, it would."
Two Artists, One Vision
Seated side by side in matching black Gucci suits, Rosalía and Rauw exude harmony. Their conversation flows like their music, each completing the other’s thoughts. This symbiosis defines their joint artistic endeavors, says Sony Music Latin Iberia CEO Afo Verde. “They maintain their independence while creating something uniquely reflective of both.”
Rosalía’s meteoric rise stems from her genre-defying blend of flamenco, reggaetón, and electronica, paired with her theatrical performances and ethereal vocals. Meanwhile, Rauw stays rooted in reggaetón while exploring influences like ’90s pop and house music. Their styles may differ, but their shared drive for innovation binds them.
Their story began at the 2019 Latin Grammys, where months of Instagram exchanges turned into a face-to-face meeting in Las Vegas. Rosalía’s black Alexander Wang jumpsuit contrasted with Rauw’s colorful bomber jacket. He had whiskey; she sipped water. It was, according to Rauw, “100% love at first sight.”
Despite their chemistry, the pair initially kept their relationship under wraps, prioritizing their individual projects. Rosalía graced major festival stages like Coachella, while Rauw climbed from clubs to arenas. Even after Rosalía co-wrote two tracks for Rauw’s Afrodisiaco album in 2020, their careers remained on separate but equally stellar trajectories.
Collaboration and Growth
Last year, they began recording together. “One day, Rosalía sent me three tracks out of nowhere, and I loved them,” says Eric Duars, Rauw’s manager. What emerged wasn’t just a “couple’s project,” but a meeting of two creative forces shaping something extraordinary.
Their collaboration is poised to elevate both artists globally. "It wasn’t driven by labels or strategy," says Columbia Records president Jen Mallory. "This is two artists creating together in a safe, inspired space."
As Rosalía gears up for her European tour and Rauw crisscrosses the U.S., their shared fan bases continue to intertwine. “Many who only listened to me now listen to her, and vice versa,” says Rosalía. Their shared success, much like their music, feels serendipitous.
Learning From Each Other
In their creative and personal partnership, the duo draws strength from one another.
“Rosalía is insanely disciplined,” admits Rauw. “At first, I didn’t get it, but then I thought, ‘If it works for her, why not me?’”
Rosalía, in turn, admires Rauw’s ability to let go. “He’s so organic and full of faith. His mindset teaches me to relax more.”
Together, they balance ambition with support. Whether it’s stage design or styling, they collaborate seamlessly. "We motivate each other to keep climbing,” says Rauw. “We represent one another and strive to raise the bar every time.”
A Harmonious Future
As their tours take them to opposite ends of the globe, their music and love story continue to inspire. While Rosalía’s star shines brightest in Europe and among English-speaking audiences, Rauw dominates in Latin America and the U.S. Together, they embody the limitless potential of Latin music.
“It wasn’t planned,” Rosalía says of their shared journey. “But it’s a blessing.”
